CHAPTER 13: THE PROBLEMS WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

Hi, Im Dr. Bob Sklovsky, Naturopathic physician.  I want to talk with you about High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).  Consumers who want to avoid genetically modified food should avoid HFCS which is usually made from genetically modified corn and then processed with genetically modified enzymes.  HFCS can be manipulated to yield up to 80% fructose and 20% glucose.  Glucose can be metabolized by all of the cells of our body whereas fructose is exclusively metabolized by the liver.  The livers of rats placed on a high fructose diet degenerate, become fat filled and cirrhotic.  In humans, fructose is converted to fat more than any sugar, hence weight gain.  Fructose can cause the body to become insulin resistant i.e. the body needs to pump out more insulin to process the same amount of sugar.  Fructose can cause multiple mineral deficiencies, among them copper deficiency, which can lead to bone fragility, anemia, blood clots, heart attacks, high cholesterol and an inability to control blood sugar levels.

THE MORAL OF THIS REPORT IS THIS:  SUGAR IS BAD, HFCS IS WORSE.

HFCS is cheaper to use than sugar and more easy to transport, thats why it is replacing sugar in the marketplace.  Check your labels as you shop.  HFCS is often the lead ingredient in pop and desserts.  Is it any wonder why we are getting sicker as a nation?  I hope you put this valuable information to good use.
